Candidates who are matched with our Training Program are assigned to the general surgical program of Boston Medical Center for their PGY-l year. Therefore, the matched candidates also must enter the NRMP and rank the Boston Medical Center general surgery training program as their first choice for general surgery. This matching allows us to monitor the progress of the residents during PGY1; and it allows residents the opportunity to become familiar with the city and its institutions. Training during PGY1 includes experience in Anesthesiology, Intensive Care, Emergency Room, and general surgical care.
