Effective October 1, 2004, the annual salaries for residents are:

PGY1 - $43,682
PGY2 - $45.663
PGY3 - $47,813
PGY4 - $51,055
PGY5 - $55,323
PGY6 - $56,895

The Executive Chief Resident is paid at the PGY6 level
There is an annual cost of living increase.

  • Should it occur, there is compensation for "extra oncall" Malpractice Insurance for the activities of the Program.
  • Uniforms provided at all locations.
  • Medical Insurance - 85% of the average premium of all medical insurance plans.
  • Long -Term Disability Insurance provided by hospital.
  • Life insurance equal to annual salary - effective after six months employment.
  • Three weeks paid vacation.
  • On call rooms available at each campus.
  • On call meals provided at Boston Medical Center - Harrison Pavilion (BMC-HP), Boston Medical Center - Newton Pavilion (BMC-HP), VAMS, and Children’s Hospital. Includes morning and evening meal.
  • Resident Office at BMC-HP, BMC-NP, and Boston VAMS.
  • Resident library available 24 hours at BMC-HAC and BMC-ENC.
  • IBM Compatible PC’s with pentium II processor, windows 95, office 95, and full internet access available for 24 hour resident access at BMC-HAC, BMC-ENC, Boston VAMS, and Children’s Hospital.
  • Parking cost is covered by the Department at all locations.
  • Maternity and Sick Leave Policy:
    Maternity: up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave
    Sick leave accrues at a rate of 1 1/4 days per month of service, but not to exceed 15 days per year.
  • Work hours:
    The Program is in compliance with the recommendations of the Coordinating Committee on House Staff Clinical Training issues.
    Society Membership: membership in the Massachusetts Medical Society is paid for by the Department. Provides for free access to Harvard affiliated Countway Library and free, unlimited internet access.
  • National Meeting Stipend:
    Special consideration is given to support attendance at conventions where residents are to present papers or posters, full compensation is provided for airfare, transportation, hotel, and meals. Preference is given to OTO 3 and 4 residents.
